As far back as I can remember SAM's Publishing seem to always put out above average works!! Mr Moczar has done an outstanding job with Tomcat Unleashed. Real world use of Tomcat and immediate information the reader can consume and put to imemdiate use. When I first read this book I was traveling weekly, I consumed it in less than a week whilst being compelled, strong i might add, to do the examples. Repetition is the mother of experts and this book can be used as a desk reference as well as an instruction manual. Superb for teaching a class!
Tomcat 5 Unleashed provides you with practical, pragamatic and functional direction to learn the servlet container through Tomcat that will bring value to anyone in any implementation. I suggest this book highly for any begginer or any individual moving from another servlet container. The extreme value is to read whilst implementing the the examples. This book makes it all the way around, immediatley drenching the reader in configuration issues such as directory structure of the Tomcat installation, application directory struture, configuration file structure, providing a workable ANT implementation, CVS integration and finally implementations inclusive warring, archiving and deployment.
Implementations include jsp and servlet examples connecting to JDBC and using JSP Tags. Before the 10th chapter T5U has given you the knowlege to use the rod and real. By the end of the book you should be fishing on your own!!
