SCALIX Webmail & Your Coporate Integration

posted 23 October 2006, Monday
Scalix11It finally looks like there is a solution for a web-based exchange.  In walks SCALIX.  Now, how suite is that?  Here is a full Linux based email system.  The restrictions and costs of client licenses are diminished as another chip is shattered away from the rock.

We are currently in the process of getting this server up and running to measure it's validity.   Currently it has a track record with several international companies and its integration with Exchange, iCalendar and and a rich web access client promises a grand solution.

The search, calendar and event sharing among users as well as contact interfacing to address books proposes a centric mail solution.  Covering Outlook support, Novell Evolution, mobile user messaging and Blackberry support provides, at the very least, an option.

The company offers Enterprise solutions which poses a more efficient model than current systems available.

The open source solution for small to mid-sized companies is a leverage point based on the community.  The community seems to be growing strong.  As the product seems to be stable than the adoption proposal is on the brink of a tipping point for a world-wide adoption.

We shall see....

This product has a lot left to be desired as a FULL service corporate email option. First it is very flaky at best. You will need to shut down your browser and start it up several times a day. Next - the search functionality is very limited. You can only search for subject line information or from and to. You cannot search email content.

Attachments are very difficult to do as well. You cannot review files you have attached before you send them.

Name search when typing an email is not up to snuff as well.

Just a few things that we have noticed on this Package.

Interesting, I knew it was had some issues, but we employed it and it was pretty successful to date.

Also, the Blackberry interface was and is pretty flaky, I agree.

The overall was not bad, what was your implementation.
