Installing OpenOffice 2.2 On MAC OS X

posted 15 April 2007, Sunday

Since we already have X11 installed from our GIMP installation it makes perfect sense to install OpenOffice 2.2.  If managed to come here and not experiencing our GIMP installation this is were you can find a quick installation of X11 for Mac OS X.  X11 is a requirement of OpenOffice.

Upon X11 installation go to the the OpenOffice site and download version 2.2 for OS X Here

DMG Install

Once its unarchived and mounted from the DMG dragging the OpenOffice.org 2.2 icon to the applications shortcut directory completes the installation.

However, if your more structured than that you can create a directory and drag the OpenOffice.org 2.2 application icon to the directory of your creation.

As a matter of course, I like to copy the LICENSEs and READMEs directory to keep all information together.

At this point you can eject the  DMG mount and lanch OpenOffice.Quick Silver Launch

Now, if the X11 installation was successful you can click on the OpenOffice icon. This launches OpenOffice and  X11.  Launching OpenOffice from QuickSilver (As seen to the left) saves traversing through finder, yet that is another story.

The launch sequence kicks of telnet as this is how X11 is executed and  OpenOffice than uses the XWindows.  The snapshot below shows this launch sequence.
