Fire Off A GUI App Whilst in OS X Terminal

OK, so your in the terminal, you don't like QuickSilver (Why I just don't knw), but let's say you dislike it because it gets in the way, for whatever minuscule reason. Now you find yourself compelled to google something. Well do it from the command line.
open Firefox.app
And quicker than you can move that mouse with an affirmative WAC of the return key, your firefox browser comes alive.
You can do this with GUI app and can even set an alias up for a two stroke delineation and a WAC of the return and your up and off.
The setup:
alias ff="open /Applications/Tools/Firefox.app"
The Execution:
ff
There you have it!
